Semi Final Disappointment, 50 Second Penalty at Gate 7.

Well i guess most of you will have seen from the official results that our Semi-Final race didn't go quite as we had hoped. We got into trouble on the tight stagger section of the course around gate numbers 5 to 7. The mistake was between Gates 5 and 6 but the result was that we missed Gate 7. Without this mistake the rest of our run would have been good enough to make the final and hence give us the opportunity to challenge for medals. What a roller coaster this sport is, we'd been paddling at the top of our game in the build up but one small mistake in the race can cost everything.

We'd like to apologise for the lateness of this update but after the race we were both pretty gutted and since then we've been travelling home. Was a pretty long journey on the back of such a disappointing result and it provided quite a bit more time for reflection than I really needed.

The other British crews also had disappointing runs with the result that C2 was the only class to fail to qualify a British spot for the Olympics. All is not lost as we get another opportunity to qualify a spot at the Europeans next year but would have been nice to have one in the bag already.

Whats done is done though and now we're gonna have a few days off before travelling to Holland a week today to compete in the Dutch Open. Ideally we'd prefer to have slightly longer out of the boat but the Dutch race provides an important opportunity to train and race on the DWD course where GB Olympic Team Selection is next year.

Will try and get hold of the video of our run so as you can all see how it happened. cheers tim
